Biography:
Sylvain-Charles Valée, also known as Sylvain Charles Valée, was a French Marshal of France born in Brienne-le-Château, France in 1773 and died in Paris, France in 1846. He was an artillery officer who developed the Valée system of artillery between 1825 and 1831. This system improved the mobility of the artillery train, simplified maintenance, and slightly improved the guns themselves. The Valée system was used in the French artillery from 1827 and was used in the Capture of Alger (1830), the Fall of Constantine (1837), and the Crimea War (1853-1856). The Obusier de 15 cm Valée, a French Artillery 6-inches howitzer, was part of the Valée system.
