Torey Thornton is an American artist born in 1990 in Macon, Georgia. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Thornton's visual practice primarily focuses on painting, but has also expanded to include installation and sculpture. His work often combines abstract and figurative elements, resulting in a tension that challenges the viewer's interpretation of the picture plane and the arrangement of forms. Thornton has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the United States and Europe, including at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, NY; Stuart Shave/Modern Art, London; and Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA. He received his BFA from the Cooper Union, New York, NY, in 2012.
