Biography:
Turone di Maxio, also known as Turone di Maxio da Camnago, Turone di Maxio or Turone da Camenago, was an Italian painter from Lombardy who was active in the Verona region during the second half of the 14th century. He is known for his use of tempera and is considered one of the most important painters in Verona before the arrival of Altichiero da Zevio. Turone's style is characterized by the first explicit examples of the reinterpretation of Giotto's lesson in the Veneto-Paduan style, which had a significant impact in Veneto. His most famous works include the 'Polyptych of the Holy Trinity' (1360), the 'Crucifixion' in the church of San Fermo Maggiore in Verona, and the 'Last Judgment' in the church of San Anastasia in Verona. Turone's work is considered a precursor to the Venetian Renaissance.
