Biography:

Victoriano Fernández Ascarza was born in Marañón, Spain in 1870 and died in Cercedilla, Madrid in 1934. He was a Spanish astronomer and pedagogue, member of the Asamblea Nacional and the Junta para Ampliación de Estudios e Investigaciones Científicas (JAE). He studied at the Escuela Normal de Madrid and obtained his doctorate at the Universidad Central. Fernández Ascarza was a member of the Real Sociedad Geográfica and other scientific societies in the first third of the 20th century. He was known for his research on solar intensity in the Sierra de Guadarrama and his role in the installation of the Siete Picos refuge of the Club Alpino Español.
