Viliam Ján Ruttkay-Nedecký was born on January 14, 1892, in Príbovce, Slovakia. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest after completing his secondary education in Martin. He was a Slovak painter and pedagogue. He died on June 30, 1967, in Banská Bystrica.
