Biography:
Vincent Hložník was a Slovak painter, graphic artist, illustrator, sculptor, and teacher. He was born on October 22, 1919, in Svederník, Slovakia, and died on December 10, 1997, in Bratislava. Hložník was a representative of Expressionism and one of the most significant representatives of Slovak visual art. He studied drawing in secondary school and attended the School of Applied Arts in Prague in 1937. Hložník's work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and he has received several awards, including the Order of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. He illustrated over a hundred works of world and national literature and was also a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava.
