, an Italian painter, was born in 1737 in Bologna, Italy. He was known for his prolific work in landscapes, both on canvas and fresco, primarily in his native Bologna. Martinelli's artistic career spanned several decades, during which he not only painted but also worked as a scenic designer.
Martinelli's notable works include the stanzas painted alla boschereccia (forest style), located in the apartment of the Legate, now home to the Collezioni Comunali d'Arte. He collaborated with Giuseppe Jarmorini on frescoes in the Courtyard of the Palace once belonging to Bolognetti on via San Felice. Another notable collaboration was with Filippo Pedrini on the landscapes in the Allegory of Commerce (1793) at the Palazzo Pallavacini.
From 1767 to 1803, Martinelli taught at the Accademia Clementina. However, he and some of his colleagues were excluded from the reformed Accademia Nazionale delle Belle Arti after 1804.
