Biography:
Virginie Demont-Breton was a French painter born on July 26, 1859, in Courrières, France. She was the daughter of Jules Breton, a well-known painter, and was introduced to other painters at a young age. Her mentor was Rosa Bonheur, who became a role model for her. She married the painter Adrien Demont in 1880. Her artistic career began early due to her family ties with painters, and she exhibited her work at the Salon des Artistes Français between 1880 and 1933. She received Honorable Mentions and won a gold medal at the Amsterdam Exposition in 1884. In 1890, she and her husband moved to Wissant, a small village on the Côte d'Opale, where they built a villa designed by the Belgian architect Edmond De Vigne. She served as President of the Union of Women Painters and Sculptors from 1895 to 1901. She died on January 10, 1935, in Paris or Wissant.
