Biography:

Wilhelm Wagenfeld was a German industrial designer, known for his work in the field of lighting design. He was born in Bremen, Germany in 1900 and died in 1990. He studied at the Bauhaus in Weimar from 1923 to 1925, where he was taught by Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer, and László Moholy-Nagy. After graduating, he worked as a designer for the Metallwerkstatt des Staatlichen Bauhauses, where he created the Standard Lamp in 1926. He later went on to found the Vereinigten Staatsschulen für freie und angewandte Kunst in Berlin in 1946, where he taught until 1960. Wagenfeld's designs are characterized by their functional simplicity and timeless elegance, and he is considered one of the most important German designers of the 20th century.
