Biography:
Hoshun Yamaguchi was a Japanese Nihonga painter and designer. He received a commission to paint a piece for the new Tokyo Imperial Palace, titled 'Kaede (maples)', which is a large painting measuring 2.74x2.5 metres. It is located on the cedar door of the east corridor of the Seiden hall. Yamaguchi was awarded the Imperial Fine Arts Academy Prize in 1926 and became an advisor to Nitten in 1969. His painting style is considered to be a Japanese expression of Western painting.
