Biography:

Yasuda Yukihiko (also known as Yasuda Shinzaburō) was a Japanese painter who excelled in depicting historical personages. He was born on February 16, 1884, in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, Japan. Yukihiko studied Tosa school painting at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music under Kobori Tomoto. His talent was recognized by Okakura Kakuzō, who sent him to Nara to study classical paintings in the Yamato-e style. He assisted Yokoyama Taikan in re-establishing the Japan Fine Arts Academy (Nihon Bijutsuin) from 1914 and taught as a professor at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music from 1944 to 1951. Yukihiko was awarded the Order of Culture by the Japanese government in 1948 and appointed a member of the Japan Art Academy. He is known primarily for his paintings on historical themes, occasionally for portraiture or bird-and-flower paintings.
