Biography:
Yvonne Thomas was born in Nice, France in 1913 and moved to the United States in 1925. She graduated from Cooper Union in 1928 and joined the Art Students League, where she studied with Vaclav Vytlacil and Dmitri Romanovsky. She attended the Ozenfant School of Fine Art and studied with the French Cubist, Amandé Ozenfant. In 1948, Thomas attended the Subject of the Artists School. She married Leonard Thomas Jr. whose mother was the poet Blanche Oelrichs and half-sister Diana Barrymore. Thomas took part in the Ninth Street Exhibition of Paintings and Sculpture in 1951 and was one of the few women artists to be included in all five of the Ninth Street shows. She was also a member the exclusive Artist’s Club, a gathering of artists and intellectuals. Thomas' work can be found in the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC; Riverside Museum, New York; Seattle Art Museum; and other institutions. She passed away in Aspen, Colorado in 2009.
