Vasile Ștefan (1905 – 1986) was known as one of the „little masters” of the Romanian contemporary period, being situated, by art connoisseurs, among Franz Marc, August Make, Kadinski or even Nicolas Stael. His creations in oil on canvas include abstract compositions, nudes, landscapes, or landscapes with characters. Cotroceni National Museum owns a series of „Nudes” among which there is this one, depicting 6 women in a landscape. The vivid colours, the tones of red, pink and yellow blending with greens, blues and purples give life to this painting, imposing a dynamism highly outlined. The women have no contured faces, giving them an aura of mystery, in deep contract with their almost explicit nudity.
