Napoleon in front of the presumed home of Nicolaus Copernicus, which he visited in 1812. According to the theory established in 1740 by Samuel Luther Geret (the last mayor of Toruń before the partitions), the family home was believed to be the unassuming corner tenement at 40 Kopernika Street (formerly St. Anna Street, corner of Piekary Street). To emphasize this theory, the mayor had an occasion-specific monument constructed in front of the astronomer
