View of the port of Barcelona seen from the Barceloneta district. On the right we can see the old harbour master’s office building, and the port’s lighthouse. In the centre of the composition the artist has painted the mixed steam-sail vessel the Comillas (1869-1890) [previously the Infanta Isabel (1863-1868)]. The Comillas was built at the Denny shipyard in Dumbarton (Scotland) in 1863. Built to sail the Santander-Puerto Rico-Havana line, it left from Santander on the 15th of each month. In 1891 it was sold for scrap. It was used for transporting soldiers to Cuba.
