Manuel Gonzalez Prada (Lima, 1844-1918) was a Peruvian writer, thinker, and politician, considered a precursor of indigenism in the country. He participated in the founding of the Literary Circle, and later in the founding of the political group Unión Nacional. He held socialist and anarchist ideas, and is the author of multiple speeches and articles where he expresses himself against the evils that dragged the country, the historical mistreatment of the indigenous population and the corruption of the political classes. Towards the end of his career, he was director of the National Library of Peru. Posthumously, several of his literary writings were published as well as expanded editions of some of his newest texts and titles.
