Studies made in recent years suggest that it may be the work of Andrea Consali, to whom a series of payments were made in connection with the realization of a sculpture in the Chapel of the Company of St Luke in the Church of the Santissima Annunziata in Florence, where the statue of St Mark shares marked similarities with the Academy’s terracotta
