Andrey Nikolov worked in Rome since 1914 to 1927. In the Eternal town the artist created some of his most remarkable works. Soft and poetic, plunged in the white glow of marble, these female images emanate the power of a genuine and deep emotional impulse. Their exquisite forms and proportions reveal sculptor’s veneration of feminine beauty. The Roman period was beneficial to Andrey Nikolov’s art. He succeeded to produce a series of portraits of remarkable people – poets, writers, artists, politicians. Sculptor’s works, created in Rome and dedicated to motherhood, as well as his baby nudes, constituted a new theme in Bulgarian sculpture from the beginning of the XX century.
