Among other items of basketwork, Gordailua houses the Etnogintza collection, which includes baskets and other items made using traditional methods and techniques in the last quarter of the twentieth century in Gipuzkoa, Bizkaia and Navarra. It has a total of 255 items made mainly from strips of chestnut (and some hazel). There are also 42 items made from esparto by craftworkers from the mainland area of the Levante region of Spain. Some were displayed in a travelling exhibition, “Euskal Herriko Zestogintza / Basketwork of the Basque Country”, which showcased this important facet of Basque cultural heritage. As well as receptacles and other objects made using these techniques, the exhibition also included the tools and materials used in this ancient craft. The picture shows a few items of popular Basque basketwork from the Provincial Government of Gipuzkoa
