Anton Graf, geboren am 18. November 1736 in Winterthur in der Schweiz, gestorben am 22. Juni 1813 in Dresden, malte zwischen 1781 und 1786 das wohl berühmteste Porträt Friedrichs des Großen. Graf konzentrierte sich vollständig auf das Gesicht des Königs, dem er einen starken Ausdruck verlieh. Ins Auge stechen der intensive Blick des Königs, die helle, fast leuchtende Stirn und die weit aufgerissenen Augen. (Jürgen Luh)
