Half-length self-portrait with jacket fastened by two buttons at the center of the chest; light checked handkerchief knotted around the neck, in a photographic pose that accentuates, together with the clothing, the extreme dignity of the subject. His face is clean-shaven, strongly hollowed out. The right temple has a large hematoma. The background can be divided into two parts: on the left, a small marsh with marsh grasses and a large dragonfly silhouetted against the sky; right cornfields with poppies and a scarecrow. The background, as usual, is underlined by trees and a bird stands out in the sky.
