The gesture of the animal with which it scratches its head accentuates the expressionist character of the sculpture and the imbalance of the ungainly forms, but precisely for this very reason effective in restoring the nature of the subject. The shaggy quality of the hair is reconstructed with deep furrows and with a harsh modeling which accentuates, despite the resting position, the possible aggression and violence, here retained but certainly latent. The powerful chest and the long limbs accentuated in their disproportion further underline the character of a wild and potentially hostile nature of the baboon.
