The prodigal son. The story of the Lost Son, depicted in four scenes on one painting. On the left, the son says goodbye to his father, then drinks with a woman at a table outside an inn. To the right the son can be seen as a pigherd and on the far right the home of the son, the welcome by the father and the slaughter of the fatted calf. The canvas is part of a series of parables painted for the Lutheran church in Leiden (see also Nos SK-A-2959 and SK-A-2960).
