From the Artist: Early in October 2020, despite taking precautions, I contracted Covid 19. After fighting it at home for a week, my blood oxygen level fell dangerously low, so we determined I was too sick to stay at home. I’ll never forget the terror on my wife’s face when they closed the ambulance doors. I was scared to death to be alone and isolated at the hospital. I received wonderful care at White Plains Hospital and after four long days my body began to respond to the treatments, and I was able to return home after ten days. My included Self Portrait was taken on the day before my release. It is the portrait of a Covid 19 survivor. Covid 19 took a huge toll on my body and my slow recovery included exercise and walking with my wife at the Rockefeller State Park Preserve. I’ve taken this experience as a grateful opportunity to get healthy, connect with nature and appreciate my good fortune of having survived.
