From the Artist: I was sent home from Loyola University Maryland two months shy of graduation when COVID-19 was spreading across the country. Between the cancelled graduation, separation from my friends, and the disappearance of job opportunities, there was an overwhelming sense of fear. Watercolor has always been an escape for me that I let slip away while busy with school and internships. Ever since I was a little girl, the intricate details and bold colors of fantasy illustrations have fascinated me. With nothing but time on my hands, I kept feeling the urge to paint something big, beautiful, and challenging. I pictured a woman dripping with flowers and staring out of a window in a daydream. “Daydreamer” reignited my love of watercolor—I spent hours mixing colors, painting little details, and making lots of mistakes. When the days were long, sad, or both, I looked forward to the spare hours every week to paint “Daydreamer.” It was hard but she made me feel special because I was creating her for my own peace of mind. Not only did she help me cope with quarantine, but she also reminded me that there are other ways to find beauty in the world.
