I made this piece to express my views on the lockdown that occurred earlier this year. During the lockdown, many of us across the United Kingdom spent our time listening to the news in which we heard the number of cases for Covid-19 rise and fall. This helped inspire me to draw my piece. As with the large numbers of lives the virus has taken, to notice each life and the lives that loss would effect unless it affected us personally. For each member of society no matter their age, gender or race/ ethnicity lockdown affected us in varying ways, some more than others. For example, members of our family or friends may have worked in the NHS or had essential jobs. The fall of the leaves could represent those who may have lost their job or furloughed. Many students like me who lost valuable time in lessons or doing exams and even spending time with friends or extended family members. However I also chose to represent the idea of loss with leaves as they grow back with time and sunlight, in this case, sunlight represents positivity. The haiku I wrote was first written when I was writing for an aria in the English National Opera Youth Company. This piece was made as part of ENO
