Two-dimensional work with a wooden frame that on its perimeter edge has a plaster guard carved with a design of fruity laurels and golden patina. Portrait of an elderly Sarmiento, 3/4 left profile, bald with gray hair over the temples, wears a black suit, a white shirt with a little dove collar and a black bow tie. Sitting in a red tufted chair, his right arm resting on the desk in an attitude of having finished writing and his left on the armrest. In the pictorial composition it is also observed: the desk with papers, a pen, books and the sculpture Soldier of Marathon, in the background a library cabinet with books arranged on the different shelves. Signature in the lower left corner.
