Artist: Faramarz Pilaram
Date: 1979
Technique: Acrylic On Paper
These two works on paper demonstrate Pilaram’s experimentation with calligraphy starting in the Saqqakhana years and continuing through the Revolution. The dominant gold inscriptions in shikasta script were painted, while the smaller red naskhi were stamped. While only some of the text is decipherable, the overlap, repetition, and rotation of letters allow one to appreciate the pieces as purely visual compositions as well.
