The painting portrays Teresa Madinelli who, together with her husband Antonio Veronesi, was among the most lively and modern collectors of the Verona of the 1910s. The painting is considered the artist’s farewell work from Verona, a city he left to move with his family to Turin in 1918, following the death of his suicidal father. The woman is depicted sitting elegantly with hands folded, in the center of an interior in which stands out the geometric pattern of the checkerboard floor, whose representation deviates from the loggias of perspective.
