By 1912, Alco-GE’s short-bodied S-class electric locomotives powered the daily commute in most major cities in the United States including New York. The ubiquitous use of the S-class inspired a variety of international toy interpretations, including this cast-iron example by Gebrüder Bing. Painted in the maroon livery of the Pennsylvania Railroad, this toy was exported to the United States in 1914.
