A man and a woman in a rowboat almost at sunset, their reflections in the water. She holds an umbrella, he holds the oars. They do not look at each other. Behind them, the calm sea and the mainland.Schjeldrup got her education in Paris and Italy where she had the most success as a genre- and portrait painter. She was commissioned to paint portraits of several important Norwegian figures like the great Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. Her genre paintings often had anecdotic motifs from Norwegian nature and everyday situations.
