The Leeuwarden Series: Members of the House of Nassau For Frederik Hendrik’s biography see the entry on his portrait by Van Mierevelt’s workshop (SK-A-254). This is a copy of the stadholder’s image in Honthorst’s portrait of him and his family from around 1647 (SK-A-874). Assuming the three portraits in the Leeuwarden Series after Honthorst prototypes were executed at the same time, the present portrait probably dates from around 1653, the likely date of the Portrait of Willem III (SK-A-521). The other painting after a Honthorst prototype in the series is that of Willem II (SK-A-520). This portrait presumably replaced another one of Frederik Hendrik in the series that was listed in the 1633 inventory as ‘Henrick, prins van Orangien’.46 A copy of the present portrait was executed by Johannes Tideman for the Statenzaal of the Provinciehuis in Groningen in 1671.47 Jonathan Bikker, 2007 See Bibliography and Rijksmuseum painting catalogues See Key to abbreviations and Acknowledgements This entry was published in J.
