The Leeuwarden Series: Members of the House of Nassau For Willem’s II’s biography see the entry on the 1647 portrait of him and his wife, Mary Stuart, by Honthorst (SK-A-871). The present work is a copy of Willem’s image in that portrait. Assuming that the three copies after Honthorst portraits in the Leeuwarden Series (SK-A-519 and SK-A-521) were executed at the same time, the present one probably dates from about 1653, the likely date of the portrait of Willem III in the series.
