Brother of Arnaldo Pomodoro, whose Sphere adorns the square in front of theMinistry, Giò was a sophisticated sculptor in his own right, capable of renewingthe language of sculpture from within and endowing it with more sharply definedcomplexity of structural relations in a period markedly influenced by Art Informel.Grande Ghibellina II is the second casting of the work in the Rockefeller Collection.With its interplay of solids and voids, this mural wave of bronze generates energyas it unfurls and dances in space.
