The Popes purchased this set for 3,500 francs from the House of Odiot in Paris while on their European Grand Tour of 1888-89.The company House of Odiot crafted pieces for French royalty, beginning with Louis XV who reigned from 1715-1774 through to King Louis Philippe who abdicated the throne in 1848. The company still operates today, creating pieces inspired by those made by House of Odiot in the 18th and 19th centuries.
