Ignacio Noguerol (Lima, 1992) depicts an Andean flamingo, or parihuana, a typical bird of the Peruvian coast, set against dark patches that lend the landscape an apocalyptic tone, suggesting the fragility of a natural environment under constant threat. At the same time, the flamingo evokes the history of republican-era Peru, and the selection by the general José de San Martín of the bird’s colors for the Peruvian flag.
