Ivan Lazarov (1889–1952) was the most prominent representative of the Native Art movement in Bulgarian sculpture of the 1920s and 1930s. He devoted his creative work to the tradition, way of life and culture of Bulgaria, and championed an art that was national in spirit and form. He created his individual style, based on the modern pursuit of a synthesised plastic art and the distinctive form-building characteristics of Bulgarian National Revival woodcarving.
