Jean de Rouen, from Normandy, sculpted this composition, which was produced during the first phase of his career and is considered to be one of his masterpieces. It portrays St. John and the three Marys, dressed in 16th century period clothing. The slight contortion of their bodies suggests a certain degree of discretion in their movements. The representation of the garments shows impressive subtlety and an eye for detail. The decay of the limestone has led to the complete loss of the polychromy.
