Johann Moritz Rugendas (Augsburg, Germany, 1802 - Weilheim, Germany, 1858) was a painter, draftsman and engraver. Hired as an expedition draftsman and documentary maker for Baron de Langsdorff Brazilian expedition, he arrived in Brazil in 1822 and took part in the expedition only in 1824. Between 1825 and 1828, he lived in Paris, Augsburg and Munich, dedicating himself to organizing and publishing his work “Voyage Pittoresque au Brésil ”(Viagem Pitoresca ao Brasil), in a sophisticated lithographed edition by Engelmann, with text in French and German, in 1835. This travel book, addressed to the general public, had the participation of 22 lithographers and Victor Aimé Huberna for the preparation of the texts.
