This panorama of the Jura captures the essence of the view. Ruskin loved travelling in the Jura mountains, and often thought of what it would be like to live in such inspiring surroundings. ‘How few of the inhabitants of earth can spend even the thousandth of their lives in such places! And of those who can – how few know what is in their power! . . . and how many thousand hearts would die of delight in an hour’s habitation of such a spot.’ (Diary, Lausanne, 8 June 1841)
