The Bell of Huesca – (José María Casado Del Alisal) Previous Next

Artist:

Size: 68 x 55 cm

Museum: Museo de Huesca (Huesca, Spain)

Technique: Oil On Canvas

José Casado del Alisal produced this small sketch in 1880. There are three known preparatory sketches for the painting. The layout of the scene is different in two of them, but the third, kept at Huesca Museum, matches the final composition used by the painter. It shows how the architecture frames the scene, and the spacing of the final piece, but not the figures, which are represented by smudges of color. It also uses much darker tones than the final version.
