Señor Sargento Luis Peralta I have just found out that three people already have harvested their corn crops and to this date you have not told me anything. For that reason I am instructing you to take an exact account of what these individuals have harvested, as well as what those who soon will be harvesting their corn and beans. Warn them not to distribute on single grain of corn or any beans until I advise you, after I receive the urgent dispatch that you will send me. Instruct the townsman Francisco Castro and those who already harvested their corn to proceed immediately to dry it and sort out the grains. On the 26th of the month, without fail or excuses whatsoever, they are to appear here with as much corn as they can transport. They will be reimbursed accordingly for the cost of transportation. You will ensure that this order is carried out and you will be held responsible if this does not come to pass. God keep you many years.Monterey, October 14, 1809José María Estudillo
