An alumnus of the Fashion Department at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Jurgi Persoons presented his own label of women’s fashion in Paris between 1997 and 2003, with memorable shows. In collaboration with fellow Belgian creatives including graphic designer Paul Boudens, makeup artist Inge Grognard, and photographer Ronald Stoops, his label immediately acquired a strong and distinctive graphic identity. Persoons’s collections were praised for their meticulous handwork and complexity, coupled with strongly sexual and grungy overtones. Persoons’s viewpoint uniquely confronts fragile femininity through his use of silk and knitwear, with more aggressive notes in his styling and make-up. This dress, in silk chiffon and Lurex, shows one of his signature elements: unfinished and frayed the seams. Persoons is currently leading the Textile & Fashion course at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.
