In this Stabrowski’s composition, the trees look as if they are breaking free from the clutches of realism and materiality. There is a shift from real visual forms to abstract imagery. It does not reach the end, but the shift towards abstract painting combined with the artist’s propagated ideas of symbolism and romanticism in a sense mythologises the natural landscape that is being depicted in the composition: the symbolically transforming trees become a measure for the expression of ideas, feelings, and experiences. This is also evident in Čiurlionis’ works. The depiction of trees is similar in his Winter collection (1907).
