Einen letzten Höhepunkt erreichte die Florentiner Bronzeplastik in den Werken des Massimiliano Soldani Benzi, der als Stipendiat Großherzogs Cosimo III. in Rom ausgebildet worden war. In exemplarischer Form bringt die sehr malerisch, fast wie ein Relief komponierte Amor-Psyche-Gruppe Soldanis Gestaltungsweise zum Ausdruck. Charakteristisch ist die diagonal angelegte Komposition der sich stark neigenden weiblichen Figur, die sich auf einem scheinbar über Wolken schwebenden Thron zärtlich dem Liebesgott zuwendet. Kompositionell und inhaltlich bildet der kunstvoll gestaltete Sockel, an dem Bronzeapplikationen mit den Attributen und Symbolen von Amor und Psyche angebracht sind, einen wesentlichen Bestandteil der technisch vorzüglich gearbeiteten Kleinbronze. Er erhebt die Amor-Psyche-Gruppe, die inhaltlich auf ein Märchen des antiken Schriftstellers Apuleius zurückgeht, zu einem »Monument der Götter der irdischen Liebe« (Ursula Schlegel).
