遊んでいる3匹の仔犬と後ろ脚を伸ばしてくつろぐ猫。仔犬は耳や尻尾の形から紀州犬と考えられています。猫の聴力は、20m先のネズミの足音が聞こえるほどすぐれ、小動物や鳥の鳴き声、女性の声など、高い音をとらえやすいようにできています。その結果、聴力が半分以下の犬と比べると、人の音や気配に敏感になるようです。長沢芦雪(1754-1799)は京都の淀で育ち、円山応挙に入門。20代後半から師匠の応挙とは異なる画風を追求していきます。
