The document is part of a collection of 30 letters, written in a familiar style, addressed by the King to the Countess of Paredes, Sister Luisa Magdalena de Jesús after her entry as a Carmelite nun in the convent of Malagón. In this case he expresses his regret for the loss of Yprés in Flanders or for the French advances in Catalonia with the siege of Tortosa. On the contrary, he is optimistic about the progressive normalization after the revolt of Naples. The King also writes about a portrait by Velázquez and the actor Juan Rana, for whom Philip IV felt a deep admiration.
