Count Anton Lamberg-Sprinzenstein (1740-1822) was the Austrian diplomatic ambassador to Turin and Naples and later protector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He left his highly important holdings of international and Austrian art to this institution, making it the third important public collection in Vienna. This signed and dated portrait of Count Anton Lamberg was painted by Quadal in Naples. It is a lively portrait capturing the sitter as a private person with his hunting dog in an unposed attitude.
