The Madonna ‘of the coazzone’owesits name to the dialect term for the long plait hanging down her back, ahairstyle very fashionable among the ladies of late fifteenth-century Milan. The sculpture comes from Milan Cathedraland is attributed to Pietro Antonio Solari, son of the architect Guiniforte. The forms are elegant, the drapes simplifiedand the contours of the face softened, in line with the classicist trendoccurring towards the end of the fifteenth century.
