This vertical aerial photograph of the centre of Plymouth was taken by the Royal Air Force in the summer of 1947. It shows the extent of the damage caused by Luftwaffe bombing during the Second World War. Clearly visible are patches of land where the rubble of destroyed buildings have been cleared, and the roofless shells of other casualties.Historic England Archive RAF_CPE_UK_2144_V_5151
